Sewer Maintenance

It’s April 2020 and you’ve probably noticed some trucks and equipment working in our neighborhood. Long blue cables have been stuffed down manhole (personhole?") covers in our streets. Don’t worry, it’s just routine maintenance to keep our sewer system working properly and trouble free.

The most important things to remember are:

  1. Your tap water is safe

  2. Don’t ever flush so called “flushable” wipes of any kind. They’re a huge problem in clogging sewers worldwide.

  3. Don’t ever flush paper towels, Kleenex, shop towels or linens. Put them in the trash.

  4. Oil and grease must never go into sewer systems.

Here’s the entire letter from local Tabernash Meadows Water & Sanitation District:

The District is monitoring many reliable sources of information related to the COVID-19 virus.  In addition to the State Health Department, we are also keeping up to date with Water and Wastewater industry associations, EPA, CDC, Grand County Government and other local area Municipalities. We are continuing to maintain and operate your Drinking Water system. The District has ample supplies in stock to continue safe and reliable Drinking Water operation through 2020 without interruption of any services. There are no reported instances of COVID-19 being transmitted through normally disinfected drinking water sources. Regardless, operations staff are paying close attention to social distancing, personal hygiene, and limiting contact with finished Drinking Water whenever possible.

The District Board of Directors has approved temporary employee safe guards to protect our most important resource, Operations Staff, so they can continue to work hard at insuring safe drinking water and sanitary sewer services! All drinking water compliance monitoring/ sampling and maintenance are being completed on-time and without exception. Your Drinking water is safe. Do not buy bottled water!

There are many reports of sewer main back-ups across the nation as people look for alternatives during the toilet paper shortage. Please DO NOT flush any alternative materials including "flush able wipes, paper towels, shop towels and linens! Sewer back-ups could expose you and response personnel to infectious disease, including COVID-19! Please use a trash can for alternate materials!

Please help us keep you safe!

You may have noticed TMWSD staff and contactors cleaning and inspecting sanitary sewer mains in Pole Creek Valley during the week of 3-30-2020. With reports of alternates to toilet paper causing sewer main backs-ups in Grand County and across the nation it was decided to move forward with planned maintenance as early as possible despite COVID-19. Pictured here, a worker is operating high pressure hydraulic cleaning equipment.  Tabernash Meadows Water and Sanitation District is dedicated to your health and safety! Please help by not flushing toilet paper alternatives, oil or grease.
